YEAR 5 - HOW WE ORAGANISE OURSELVSE Planner
Week 1 and 2
· Children investigate what of the IB vocabulary they will be investigating in their unit, planning their unit, looking at what action they would like to do.
· Investigate into different Bio domes and what each resource a Bio dome has.
· Children will then start to investigate the different types of bio domes.
Maths links
Investigating into 2D and 3D shapes and why they are important in building a house.
· Looking at how the 2D shapes get their names
· How their formulas come about
· The importance of Angles
· Looking at how 3D shapes are made of different 2D shapes
· How to make Nets and models of 3D shapes
· Using Algebra to solve different formulas of 2D shapes
· Finding the volume and capacity of different shapes
· And most importantly looking to how all of these relate to building.
Art Link
· One point perspective drawing.
Week 3 and 4
· Children will inquire into what resources are the in the different biodomes.
· Different whether conditions and natural disaster are more prone in those different biodomes.
· What adaptations do the animals have and what adaptations do the different houses already have.
· What different buildings are already there and why
· Invetigate and do experiments on what architecture makes the strongest houses.
· What are the stongest materials.
Maths link
Looking at Ratio, to enlarge and reduce buildings.
Investigate into what Percentage, Ratio, fractions are but also how they link to each other.
Art Link
· Two point perspective drawing.
Week 5 and 6
· Build miniature scale houses from each biodome, according to the knowledge they have.
· Test with is the strongest house and why
· Make a display on buildings
· Have information about the biodome, make a house, and have an experiment to test the building ( earthquake), write about design structure, and what materials they used and why.
· Write a brochure on what to make sure of when you go to different places around the world
· Research which countries have issues with buildings and why, and what you can do to help.
Year 5 would like to have a fundraiser for an organization that helps build buildings.
